About Waimea Urgent Care
Opened since 2008, Waimea Urgent Care has been treating Hawaii’s non-emergent medical ailments for over a decade. Tourists and local residents on the Big Island of Hawai’i ages 6-months and up are welcome to seek quality, efficient treatment and care at the facility. Waimea Urgent Care is operated by Dr. Lorraine Sonoda-Fogel who holds a degree from the University Of Hawaii John A Burns School Of Medicine medical school. Dr. Sonoda-Fogel also works with a team of physicians who have been practicing medicine for over 20-years.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Waimea Urgent Care is utilizing telemedicine Virtual Urgent Care, however, are still able to treat minor injuries and infections that require surgical intervention. Waimea Urgent Care is able to test for strep throat, mononucleosis, influenzae, UTI via rapid testing, or send you to the closest lab via a virtual visit.
Telemedicine Services
In an effort to provide you with access to convenient, high-quality health care we are offering Telemedicine. Telemedicine allows our healthcare providers to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients in remote locations using telecommunications technology.

Through Waimea Urgent Care’s Virtual Appointments, you have access to physician consultation, diagnosis, treatment and prescription refills for a broad range of non-emergency conditions, including the following:
Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19) and safety precautions necessary to protect staff and clients, we will be providing limited contact care via virtual/ telemedicine visits.
- Clients will be able to check in online, via telephone or at a window at our facility.
- Staff will be available to do vital signs, strep, flu, and Covid-19 testing in a booth immediately outside of the clinic.
- Those that require more attention (wound care, sutures, respiratory treatment, TB test, tetanus shots and other modalities) will be cleared then taken into an exam room for further evaluation and treatment.
- Patients will only be allowed to be accompanied by one person. Everyone will be required to wear a face mask except for children below the age of 2 years old.
Waimea Urgent Care is not an emergency room.
